Keys to success
What helps Russians to reach success? What appears of greater importance: education, sound physical health, next of kin support or friends’ contribution? The findings of the national survey, made by Bashkirova and partners, give answers to these questions.
To be able to rank the drivers for a respondent’s success we have asked the following question «What of the following helps you to reach success». Suggesting this wording of the question we were looking for above all to get an answer based on a respondent’s personal experience, not common stereotypes and patterns imposed by media, education system or views, prevailing in an interviewee’s social environment.
Family and relatives’ support makes a critically important driver to success for most of our fellow citizens (65%). Family contribution is topical for respondents of whatever age. However it is particularly relevant to young people between 18 and 30 of age. Significant share of the young from this age category is engaged in studying and getting initial professional skills, so these turn out to be the least secured from aftermath of negative conjuncture in the global labor market. A little behind the above answer option (just 2% down), the “Good physical health” is taking second top line in our rating. The importance of this aspect can hardly be disputed (especially if we take into consideration the trends in homeland public health system). It’s remarkable that good physical health appears a less relevant driver for gaining success in ladies (down 9%). The most likely explanation for this could be that small percentage of them is typically engaged in doing heavy, dangerous and harmful physical work.
Good education certainly helps to success (for those who have one above all). 62% of university graduates and above 40% of respondents with higher incomplete education have said so.
Job with good prospects is above all important for Russians between 30 and 40 y.o. (30%). Respondents of younger age can still not have a job with good prospects, while older professional feel quite reserved in estimation of their further career opportunities and prospects.
This study was conducted in early October 2015 based on all-Russia random route sample in adults (18+) by means of face-to-face interviews in place of residence. Altogether 1500 respondents in 8 federal districts, 150 settlements, in 200 sample points have been surveyed. The sample error makes ± 2,5% by C.I. of 95%.
